At the confluence of two valleys, the Viroin and the Meuse, Vireux-Molhain has always occupied a strategic place for the military control of the region. As early as the 3rd century, the Romans set up a military camp on the heights of Molhain, on the edge of this rocky spur dominating the valley. From this ancient fortification, defended on its four sides by a thick wall, the two corner towers of the enclosure, a bread oven, a circular hearth and a cemetery are still visible, as well as numerous medieval remains. On the Mont Vireux, follow in the footsteps of the legionnaires who defended Roman Gaul against the first Germanic invasions in the 3rd century. On the spot you will discover a perfect picture where heritage and nature mix. Another point of interest: the viewpoint overlooking the Meuse valley and the Viroin valley.
