Saint Martin, patron saint of the church in Conflans
A symbol of the universal value of sharing, Martin was born in Hungary in the year 316. At the age of 15, he joined the Roman army.
Very young, in 337, at the gate of Amiens, he cut his coat with his sword to offer half of it to a poor man who was dying of cold. The following night, he had a vision of Christ wearing the shared cloak!
He was then baptized and became a friend of the bishop of Poitiers. Then he began a prodigious career as a traveler and became in turn bishop of Tours. Martin died on November 8, 397 in Touraine. Poitevins and Tourangeaux fought over his remains. Martin's body travelled by boat on the Loire to Tours. On its passage, everything blossoms again. Thus was born the expression "the summer of Saint Martin" for the beautiful days of November.
