This market is located on the site of the former Augustins abbey, destroyed during the French Revolution. From the 14th century onwards, this abbey extended from the covered market to the municipal theater. This was Verdun's poorest abbey, and as the Augustinians were an order of mendicants and preachers, they exercised their ministries on the Pont des Augustins, close to the market. The market has been held every Friday morning since 1853, when the current building was constructed.
Throughout the season, the covered market welcomes exhibitors, second-hand goods dealers, local artists and other Meuse creators in an enchanting, authentic setting
