Today's church stands on the site of a more modest structure built in the 11th or 12th century.
The present chancel is probably all that remains of the original church, which was probably damaged during the Hundred Years' War and then during the Wars of Religion; it was plundered and ruined in May 1562. The building underwent major alterations in the 17th century with the addition of the transept, then in 1845 with the lengthening of the nave and the opening of a new door to the west. The arch of the former opening to the south transept is still visible. The Chapel of the Virgin in the north transept, built in the late 1660s and 1670s, was considered the château's domestic chapel. Its doors, now closed, allowed the lords to enter from this side.
