The Marèges lookout offers a panoramic view of the Monts d'Auvergne, the gorges of the Haute-Dordogne and the dam and hydroelectric plants. The Marèges dam has served as a model for over 90 dams worldwide. It was the first double-curvature dam in France.
The bucolic trail to the lookout starts at the plateau de la Mole . It then wends its way through undergrowth, where you'll discover balloon hangers used for anti-aircraft defense by German troops during the Second World War.
The path then leads to a platform specially built by SHEM (Société Hydro-Electrique du Midi). An orientation table shows the main peaks visible from this vantage point. Located in a Natura 2000 zone, the site is home to a wide variety of birds, including protected species such as the Red Kite.
