MONUMENT AUX MORTS DE LIFFOL-LE-GRAND

The war memorial near the Liffol-le-Grand church was inaugurated on April 17, 1921. Commemorating the two great world conflicts of the 20th century, its erection was decided by the commune in October 1919; in the press article published on October 25, we read that "this very sober monument, but of a refined and delicate taste, will be 4 meters 70 high. The entire base will be made of fine Brittany granite. The inscriptions will be engraved in granite and gilded with fine gold. The statue surmounting the pedestal will be in white Carrara marble

Built by Les Marbreries Générales de Paris (Gourdon Dir.), as a gift from "Liffol-le-Grand to its heroic children who died for France", this monument in Vosges granite and marble is topped by a statue symbolizing France crowning its heroes.

Today, the monument bears the names of 77 men who died in the 1914-1918 war, and 13 in the 1939-1945 war.
