Located 10km from Poitiers, Nouaillé-Maupertuis is appreciated for the beauty of its abbey site, classified as a historic monument. The complex includes a Romanesque church, abbey dwelling and convent buildings, surrounded by fortifications and moats.
Nouaillé-Maupertuis is also famous for having been the scene of one of the "Poitiers" battles in 1356, during the Hundred Years War, in which the King of France, Jean le Bon, was taken prisoner.
