In Portets, about 20 km south of Bordeaux, the Château de Mongenan is a delightful 17th century "folly" surrounded by enchanting gardens. In Mongenan, whose first owner, Antoine de Gascq, had Jean-Jacques Rousseau as his master of thought, nature is omnipresent. It is not one but several gardens that you will discover during your walk.
The garden "for ornament" takes up the classic design of a French park. In the "ornamental" garden, stroll in the shade of tall trees with names that are as many invitations to travel, Virginia plywood, Aussages orange, camphor, strawberry ... Finally, take one of the 7 steps evoking Paradise and enter the "utility" garden where baroque meets esotericism and admire some thousand species of vegetable, aromatic or medicinal plants.
