It is thanks to the ford of Pairé, allowing to cross the Sèvre Niortaise, that in the Middle Ages the suburb of Villedieu du Pont de Vau developed, today the commune of La Crèche. The history of this building begins at the beginning of the 15th century when Aimery de Magné, squire, lord of Isle and Sainte-Néomaye decides to have a stone town house built. He stays there with his servants the time necessary to manage his affairs while the rest of the year, he remains in his castle.
Wishing to ensure God's good graces, in 1438, by will, he bequeathed his house to a religious organization to welcome pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela in Gallice by taking the path between Cherveux and Celles-sur-Belle. During the Revolution, this noble house which had become a chaplaincy was sold as national property.
