Description

Born in Fez, Morocco, where he has retained the beauty of writing, Aziz Stitou is a self-taught visual artist who has settled in Mortemart.
What interests him in writing is the gesture, i.e., calligraphy is not a pretext to give meaning to signs, and by extension to the painting, but rather to give free rein to one's imagination. His calligraphic practice is part of a contemporary style integrating suggestive representation: detail is replaced by the letter, the sign, the form, the imprint.
For him, the dialogue between Chinese ink and color always reflects the musicality of the moment?s mood. Nature provides the inspiration for his work, and it's with Indian ink that he transcribes the forms and ideas he perceives.
His contemporary approach joyfully assumes the depth of his roots.
