Outside the walls of the prestigious Ferrières Abbey, at the end of the Rue des Fossés, a small and original architectural heritage can be found, which preserves the memory of the very old church of Saint-Amand and Saint-Eloi. In the centre of the old cemetery square, one can admire a high cross of stone and wrought iron (dated from the 13th century for its lower part), set on an octagonal stepped base, composed of seven steps. Next to the cross, there is still a curious stone lectern, dating back to the 13th or 14th century. This lectern, supported by a small unadorned column, was used on Palm Sunday to sing the "Hosanna" during the reading of the Gospel
the reading of the Gospel during Holy Week, and perhaps also for
the reading of public edicts.
