Eglise Saint-Etienne

On April 11th 1113, a papal bull recognized that the monks of Saint-Nicaise de Reims owned in Fligny: the banal mill, land, a meadow and a quarter of the tithes. The church, built of beautiful ochre stone, was fortified after the attacks of the Imperials in 1555 and 1637. A tower reinforces the defence of the church, at its chevet; this tower has been levelled. The base of the masonry is built in brick, probably an old repair. A dripstone runs around the building. Openings for the lookout and for the cover - a fine, long fire hydrant, often supported by a fork planted in the ground - pierce the well-appointed wall. Note the reinforcement with wrought iron anchors and tie rods.
