The source of Burle is a Vaucluse type karst exsurgence. Its water loaded with copper salts gives it this blue colour, the starting point of the legend of Ste-Enimie.
The legend of Sainte-Enimie
Daughter of the king of the Franks, sister of the "good king Dagobert", Enimie, a chaste princess as beautiful as she is pious, has found in the waters of the Burle spring a remedy for the terrible leprosy that devours her. She settled near this beneficial fountain and founded an abbey which is at the origin of the present village.
Her legend has come down to us thanks to a poem in medieval Occitan: "La vida de Santa Enimia", composed in the 13th century by Bertran de Marseilha, a learned monk from the monastery.
