In 1131, a group of Carthusian monks began construction of the Chartreuse du Mont-Dieu. composed of monks, this monastic community lived in simplicity and sobriety. In 1275, the monastic barn was built. Today, it remains the oldest building. In the 18th century, the Chartreuse du Mont-Dieu held an economic empire of 4,200 hectares. Until recently, the 16th-century Pavillon Saint-Etienne, Pavillon Saint-Bruno and Pavillon du Jardinier were still standing, visible from the road and footpaths that run alongside the estate. Unfortunately, they were extensively damaged by fire on November 2, 2025.
