In 1131 begon een groep kartuizermonniken met de bouw van de Chartreuse du Mont-Dieu. deze monnikengemeenschap leefde in eenvoud en soberheid. In 1275 werd de kloosterschuur gebouwd. Vandaag de dag is dit nog steeds het oudste gebouw. In de 18e eeuw bezat de Chartreuse du Mont-Dieu een economisch rijk van 4.200 hectare. Tot voor kort stonden het paviljoen Saint-Etienne, het paviljoen Saint-Bruno en het paviljoen van de tuinman, gebouwd in de 16e eeuw, nog overeind, zichtbaar vanaf de weg en de wandelpaden die langs het landgoed lopen. Helaas werden ze op 2 november 2025 zwaar beschadigd door brand.
