The Hospice Condé was established in Chantilly at the beginning of the 18th century by the will of the princes. Charged with taking in the poor, the sick, the elderly, the destitute and abandoned children, the Hospice Condé was run by the Sisters of Saint Vincent de Paul. In the 1780s, the hospice acquired a collection of polychrome earthenware pharmacy jars to store powders, ointments, pills and other substances used as medicine. Miraculously preserved in its entirety, this magnificent collection of 120 jars is installed in the chapel of the hospice: jars in the form of urns or tureens, with floral decoration, marked with the arms of the Princes of Bourbon-Condé and with surprising indications (hemlock, whalebone, Mithridate...) or sometimes repulsive (sowbugs' eyes, dogs' tongues or even powdered viper)! The Condé Pharmacy is open from time to time according to the calendar of guided tours of the city of Chantilly and during the Heritage Days.
