Ravaged by fire in 1775, the new Comédie was built and financed on its present site (rue Jules Lebocey) in 1777 by Nicolas Goulin, a decorative painter. After several changes of ownership, it was bought by the municipality in 1814.
This charming Italian-style theater has excellent acoustics and seats 400 spectators. Its intimate configuration favors close proximity between artist and audience, one of the main characteristics of the "scène conventionnée" directed by Pierre Humbert.
