The monks who built the church may have given its name to the village: indeed, they naturally spoke Latin, and it was often they who baptized their convent with the name of a place or river
Thus the word Arzenc would come from the pre-Latin word Arisa, which means river and the suffix Inco which means place
Arzenc would thus mean place of the river.
