Site naturel d'escalade "Grotte des Nains"

The Grotte des nains is above all a place of legend.

This climbing site offers routes of a fairly high level. You'll need to be comfortable in level 6b, as the easiest routes start at this level. It has the advantage of being close to Altkirch and Mulhouse. Today, it is the only natural climbing site in the Alsatian Jura, with the possible exception of the Raemelsberg site on the French-Swiss border between Kleinlutzel and Wolschwiller.

General information: the rocks at Grotte des Nains form a 25-metre-high cliff facing N.-E., set into a small gorge for around ten metres. The location and orientation of the rocks are such that they see very little sunlight. The "Tip Top" sector also remains dry even in light rain. The routes in this sector take place on excellent overhanging, beautifully concretioned rock. This is a summer cliff par excellence.

Range of routes: 15 routes and variants from 6b to 8a.

Equipment: all routes are equipped with a chain and karabiner at the top of each route.

Recommended season: summer, autumn; sometimes impassable in spring due to resurgences.
