Monument Américain de Wadelincourt

The American intervention in April 1917 was an immense relief for France at a time when it was suffering the disaster of the Chemin des Dames and the collapse of the Russian front. On 3 September 1918, Marshal Foch ordered a general offensive with the Meuse as its objective. On 3 September 1918, Marshal Foch ordered a general offensive aimed at the Meuse. He engaged General Pershing, commander-in-chief of the American forces, in the battle of the Argonne, whose troops would push the enemy back as far as Sedan. On 6 November 1918, the 1st American division attacked the German line from Besace to Beaumont and drove the enemy back on the right bank of the Meuse between Villemontry and Autrecourt. During the night of the 6th to the 7th, it took control of the whole left bank as far as Wadelincourt. The monument ("This Point") marks the final point of the advance of the American troops. On 10 November, General Pershing paid a vibrant tribute to his troops.
