L'intervento americano dell'aprile 1917 fu un grande sollievo per la Francia in un momento in cui soffriva per il disastro dello Chemin des Dames e per il crollo del fronte russo.3 Nel settembre 1918, il maresciallo Foch ordinò l'offensiva generale con obiettivo la Mosa. Affronta il generale Pershing, comandante in capo delle forze americane, nella battaglia delle Argonne, le cui truppe respingono il nemico a Sedan. Il 6 novembre 1918, la 1ª divisione americana attaccò la linea tedesca da Besace a Beaumont e ricacciò il nemico sulla riva destra della Mosa tra Villemontry e Autrecourt. Nella notte tra il 6 e il 7, prese il controllo di tutta la riva sinistra fino a Wadelincourt, e il monumento ("This Point") segnò il punto finale dell'avanzata delle truppe americane. Il 10 novembre, il generale Pershing rese omaggio alle sue truppe.
