Conquer the 370 km of the GTJ, from Mandeure in the north to the
mountain of Ain in the south. Between 5 and 10 days of adventure
on a strenuous trail as far as Fourgs, then a gentler ride to Giron and Hauteville. From May to October, the GTJ welcomes you into the heart of rich, wild, unusual countryside, leading you from peaks to valleys, up to 1500m altitude.
The route is divided into five geographically-consistent sectors.
Generally, unless you are very well-trained, it is advisable to
complete it in more stages. The GTJ mountain bike guide map is
based on this division of the route and provides a detailed description of 23 sections, each 12 to 23 kilometres. The route can be taken in either direction, except where marked, but the description favours the north-south direction.
Although it is highly urbanised, the Pays de Montbéliard GTJ will
enable you to access the countryside in the first kilometre of your
route. Before setting out, you can visit the Peugeot Adenture Museum in Sochaux and the remains of the Gallo-Roman theatre in Mandeure, near to where the GTJ starts.
