Fontaine des Chartreux

Due to work on the Chartreux Fountain water filtration unit, access to the site will be restricted from February 9 to April 17, 2026. However, access to the pedestrian footbridge will be maintained.

The Chartreux fountain is a limestone resurgence, once a place of worship for Divona, the Celtic goddess of water who gave her name to Cahors (Divona Cadurcorum).

The discovery of numerous Roman coins in 1989 testifies to the cult of the spring in the 1st century BC and 1st century AD.

In the Middle Ages, a mill used the waters of the fountain, then in 1360 it was handed over to the Carthusian monastery, hence its present name.
