In 2014, the fortuitous discovery of a 17th century antependium, preserved in the church of Saint-Maur in Bouxurulles (Vosges), allowed the commune to bring to light a long forgotten work. Its originality lies in its two polychrome faces: on one side the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, on the other, a Memento Mori. The use of both sides during particular liturgies has made it a mobile and decorative work: on one side, the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament or Eucharist, used for ordinary masses, is represented by a central scene in a medallion where two angels frame a golden monstrance, bathed in divine light and containing the holy host. The representation of Corpus Christi participates in its glorification and allows the faithful to be totally devout. On the other side, a white cross on a black background divides the space into four where human skulls and bones are placed in saltire. This scene represents a Memento Mori, "remember that you are going to die" in Latin. It was used in funeral ceremonies. In France, there are very few similar examples in polychrome wood of this type. The name of the commissioner and the painter are unknown, but the style is characteristic of eastern French productions.
