Rimogne is a commune of 1450 inhabitants who are called "Rimognats". Slate was extracted there from 1158 to 1971, that is to say during 813 years. Rimogne is located on the Rocroi plateau, 17 km northwest of Charleville-Mézières. Many buildings or monuments recall this slate mining life as shown by the Maison de l'Ardoise reopened since 2012 from June to September. The Saint Brice church built in 1845, with stained glass windows recalling the slate mining past of the commune. The Monument aux Morts, sculpted in 1870 by Aristide Croisy. The Grande Fosse, trace of the slate quarrying past of Rimogne (vertical well of 185 meters) Eugène Damas, born in Rimogne on March 9, 1844, painter, founded the Artistic Union of the Ardennes with Alphonse Colle.
