Sedan is a town of 20540 inhabitants that we call the Sedanese. This town is located 20km east of Charleville-Mézières, 100km north of Reims, 150km west of Metz and 22km from Bouillon (Belgium). It is a sub-prefecture of the Ardennes. The Meuse is the river that runs through the city. It is a city classified City of Art and History. Particularities: Evrard de la Marck, built from 1424, a powerful fortified castle that dominated the right bank of the Meuse, nine La Marck, in a century and a half, have made Sedan, which became a Principality. Henri and his eldest son Frederick Maurice de La Tour d'Auvergne, continued the work of the de La Marck, the Principality reached its peak but also its decline during their reigns.Paul Bazelaire, born in Sedan on March 4, 1886 was a renowned cellist but also a great composer.Yannick Noah, born in Sedan on May 18, 1960 is a former international tennis player, from the 2000s he became a nationally known singer.A must see in passing: Architectural heritage :Château Fort: the largest fortified castle in Europe in the Middle Ages can be visited through the Historium.Château Bas or Palais des Princes.Académie des Exercices or Maison du Gros Chien.Le Dijonval: former royal cloth factory.Many former cloth factories form the old centre of the town.Le Collège Nassau: built in 1894 according to the plans of the architect Léon Henri Couty.Religious heritage: The church of Saint Charles: classified as a historical monument, it was originally a temple which became a church in 1685, following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
