La vallée du Chalaux

The Chalaux is a French river which flows in the departments of Nièvre and Yonne. It is a tributary of the Cure on the left bank, thus a sub-tributary of the Seine by the Cure, then the Yonne. It is typically a watercourse of the Morvan massif. The whole of its basin is part of the Morvan regional natural park. It originates in the Morvan massif, on the territory of the locality of Planchez, in the department of Nièvre, twelve kilometres north-east of Château-Chinon. It flows into the Cure (left bank) at Saint-Germain-des-Champs, in the department of Yonne at the level of the lake of Crescent (created by the dam of Crescent on the Cure). The course of the Chalaux is blocked by the Chaumeçon dam in the commune of Brassy, which has created a very beautiful lake almost entirely surrounded by woods and forests.
