At the intersection of Avenue de la Grande Fontaine and Avenue du Général de Gaulle, the monument to the dead, erected by the district of Neufchâteau in honor of the officers and soldiers who died for the Fatherland during the conflict of 1870-1871, proudly stands and reminds us of these two words: "To forget... Never!"
Listed in the Inventory of Historical Monuments since January 2000, and recently restored, it is the only monument to the dead in the Western Vosges that recalls the memory of this conflict. Following a request presented by the 437th veterans' section, accepted in August 1899 by the town council, it was inaugurated on 7 October 1900. Its bronze statue, representing a woman, symbolizes "France strong in the attitude of defense, ready to draw the sword to protect its soil".
