The Khufu Solar Boat is an artifact discovered in 1954 by Egyptian Egyptologist Kamal el-Mallakh in the necropolis of Giza , Egypt.
It is a life-size, twenty-ton solar boat that was stored disassembled in a pit at the foot of the Great Pyramid of Cheops . The ship was almost certainly built for Khufu, the second ruler of the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Like other buried ancient Egyptian ships, it was apparently one of many funerary objects intended for use in the afterlife.
The boat is made of Lebanese cedar wood, a rot-resistant material that was highly valued in ancient times.
