Since 1983, the Place du Cours Honoré-Cresp in Grasse has been home to the impressive Monument des Martyrs de la Résistance et de la Déportation , a memorial in honour of 34 brave Grassois who fought and died during the Second World War. It was originally erected in 1948 on the boulevard Maréchal Juin.
The memorial consists of several parts:
the memorial consists of:
- Fragmentary wall (recreates images of bombings)
- Plaque with 34 names
- Image of a prisoner behind bars: resistance and oppression
- Trapeze in schist with dans macabre , as a symbol of the suffering in the concentration camps
- Marble panel with De Gaulle's "Appeal of the 18th of June 1940" and tricolour border
- The motto "Lei jamai oblidar" is engraved: "Ne les oubliez jamais" - one of the few Occitan inscriptions in the region
