Traumschleife Grenzblickweg

This hike, partly in the middle of the border between Lorraine and Saarland, symbolizes Franco-German border history in a special way. We pass old boundary stones, enjoy extraordinary views and move through a stretch of land between Saarland and Lorraine where you can literally hear the silence. In Leidingen, the border runs through the middle of the main road, an extraordinary highlight for every visitor.

In Leidingen, the inhabitants are daily border crossers. The road along the border is called "Neutrale Straße" in Germany and "Rue de la Frontière" in France. The French church is located outside the village on a hill at the edge of the forest. This is also the start of the hiking tour. The route leads through the Eberswald forest and later through the Dennenwald forest towards Heining lès Bouzonville. At the edge of the forest, just before Heining, the trenches from the Second World War are still visible.

The further we walk, the wider the view into the countryside, beyond the Saarland to France, Luxembourg, the foothills of the Hunsrück and the Schaumberg.

A simple wooden cross is located above Heining. This place was heavily contested during the Second World War. Quiet, vast land in the border area. The silence seems to become audible in a stretch of land where the border has completely disappeared. One country disappears into another.

Behind the village of Ihn, the route leads between meadows and fields across open fields with views over the heights of the Saargau.

A paved road leads back to Leidingen. There are old boundary stones to the left and right of the road. In between, the road leads through no man's land on neutral ground directly to Leidingen
