Between the Haguenau Forest and the banks of the Rhine (EuroVelo 15), the route takes the cyclist through the green countryside of the Uffried and then branches off to the west to skirt the northern edge of the Haguenau Forest. Here is the Outre-Forêt, a slightly undulating plain with particularly attractive villages such as Betschdorf. The road is open until Walbourg before entering the Haguenau Forest, one of the largest in France. It leads to Soufflenheim via Haguenau. The route adds up to remarkable sites. Starting with Sessenheim, where Goethe had an idyll, there is Betschdorf, the capital of grey and blue pottery, where the local clay is used to make various objects. Visit the pottery museum with its superb old pieces. In Walbourg, you can admire the stained glass windows of the 15th century Sainte-Walpurge church. The Haguenau Forest is the territory of many hikes, the most famous of which leads to the big oak of Saint-Arbogast which measures seven meters in circumference.
