Along the cave of the hermit Saint-Honorat to the orientation table of the red Pic du cap Roux

With this challenging hike we visit the cave of Saint-Honorat and climb the Pic du Roux . Because we go completely around the mountain we get panoramic views of the hinterland of the Massif d'Estérel as well as the coast and the Mediterranean Sea.

We use the marked yellow and blue route , but make our own combination to reach the destination. So we always follow the yellow or blue route, except for a small part after the cave of Saint-Honorat, where we make a short crossing on the yellow route.

Start at the Sainte-Baume car park. This is a bit further than where visitors to the sanctuary park.

We first arrive at the pilgrimage site of Sainte-Baume with its natural source. From here we follow the yellow route via a steep path to the ruins and the cave of Saint-Honorat. In some places ropes are provided to ensure sufficient support.

The yellow route returns all the way back to the place of pilgrimage below. However, we turn right onto a narrow but well-trodden path, which after 100 metres joins the yellow route. This saves us about 600 metres ...

We continue to follow the yellow route and pass over the remains of rubble avalanches and past cairns.

After a short 1.5 km the blue route crosses our path . The yellow route now goes to the top of Pic du Roux, but we continue to follow the blue route , all the way around the mountain. Now we suddenly get a view of the coast and the Mediterranean Sea!

The yellow route now follows the blue route (2.7 km) but a little further (3.7 km) watch out when yellow goes to the right and blue to the left. We now follow yellow right to the col du Cap Roux .

It's a bit of a round trip (1 km total - 80 meters of elevation) to the Pic du cap Roux , but we'll come back here. Those who don't feel up to it can wait for the rest of the group in the shadow of Le Pilon.

Here at Col du Cap Roux the yellow and blue routes cross again. We now follow blue back down to the starting point. On the way we get a nice view of the Pic de l'Ours.
