Stage from Fougères to La Guerche-de-Bretagne via La Regalante

This cycling stage connects two emblematic medieval towns in the historic region of Marches de Bretagne: Fougères and Vitré. The green corridor winds through the heart of the countryside and passes by lakes such as Châtillon and Cantache, ideal spots for a picnic. Like the previous stage, this route is also interrupted by elements from the railway past, such as the old stations of La Selle-en-Luitré and Châtillon-en-Vendelais, with the endpoint in Vitré and its majestic castle: the iconic postcard of your cycling journey on the Régalante! This market town, which has been thriving since the Middle Ages, is a true journey through history.

A gentle sense of total freedom prevails on a beautiful green corridor between Vitré and La Guerche-de-Bretagne. Between these two market towns, cyclists find a tranquil environment in Argentré-du-Plessis, Torcé, or Domalain, where the rural atmosphere is perfect for a picnic or a relaxing break. Upon arrival, La Guerche-de-Bretagne will surprise you with its beautiful colorful half-timbered houses, its shops, its collegiate church, and its medieval kitchen garden. On Tuesdays, the town buzzes with a lively market that has been held for over 900 years. It’s also a great place for cyclists to recharge their batteries and continue their ride.

Not to be missed:

• Fougères: city of art and history, with its imposing castle, the largest medieval fort in Europe, where the history of the Marches de Bretagne is told. Breathtaking views from the public gardens and the Rocher Coupé quarry, the discovery trail. Treat yourself to the traditional galette-saucisse at the Saturday morning market in Fougères.
• Luitré-Dompierre: the Belle Aude garden, with its lake, playground, and 3 cabanétapes ideal for overnight stays.
• The Saut-Roland nature reserve: cliffs with a height difference of 173 m with wooded slopes and the legend of the brave knight Roland.
• Lac de Châtillon, classified as an ornithological reserve: popular with bird lovers, observatory, pedal boat, camping Les Rives du lac
• Lac de la Cantache: a paradise for birds and walkers
• Vitré: designated as a City of Art and History. The many monuments take you on a journey from the Middle Ages with its fortified castle, through the Second Empire via the train station and the upper town, to the Renaissance with its many private mansions.
• Argentré-du-Plessis: a viewpoint on the estate of the Château du Plessis (private), heritage monuments, the Monks' pond, and the pond of the Moulin Neuf
• La Guerche-de-Bretagne: Petite Cité de Caractère®, motte castrale, beautiful half-timbered houses with porches visible in the city center, the lively market every Tuesday.
