The Reed Circuit

A beautiful walk of approximately 7.5 km, almost entirely around the Diefenbach pond in Puttelange-aux-Lacs. Surrounded by lush vegetation, this 75-hectare pond is part of the structures of the Aquatic Maginot Line. It was built before World War II to serve as a natural barrier. Today, it is a haven of peace for local wildlife, where water birds populate the shores, adding a touch of life to this already idyllic landscape.

Flanked by over 320 hectares of forest, you will appreciate the paths that run along the edges of the pond, the smells of undergrowth in autumn or after a summer rain, and the view of the water, between a few leaves and reeds. An immersion in nature far from traffic, where you can enjoy the calm in the shade of the trees and take the time to observe the birds. A refreshing circuit in summer, along the water, that offers beautiful views of the pond.

On the northern shore, a birdwatching observatory has been set up for you to admire the local wildlife in complete discretion. An opportunity to take the time to observe a wide variety of species that enjoy this beautiful stretch of water: ducks, geese, herons, moorhens, frogs, and toads. Remember to slip a pair of binoculars into your backpack to make the most of the nature around you. After the observatory, on the northern part of the circuit, it is possible to return to the starting point by following the shores of the pond or by following the marking (brown ring) that goes along the edge of the forest.

Also to see! A beautiful panoramic view towards Hoste, with a viewpoint table at the forest edge complements the points of interest along the circuit, extending the route to the northern tip (sign La croisée). A picnic table at this spot is ideal for relaxing and enjoying the view.
