Hiking - the ponds of Girmont

Access: From Remiremont, take the road to Val-d'Ajol and after 2 km, turn left towards Girmont-Val-d'Ajol.
Parking: Park in the large parking area near the shelter.

Distance: 9.8 km / Duration: 3 h 30 / Elevation Gain: 200 m / Marking: green ring.

1) Start from the information panel located in the center of Girmont-Val-d'Ajol. For 1 km, follow the small road that passes in front of the Saint-Vallier inn (significant plantation of Vosges blueberries visible from the terrace).
2) Turn left and follow a gently sloping path to the Corfaing ponds located on the plateau. Near the farm, go around the last pond to the left and stay on the forest edge (view of the ponds).
3) Cross the road, the path continues along the edge. Follow a new road to the right for 200m. Turn left onto a gravel path that enters the forest. The path follows a fence, turns at a right angle, and veers further to the right while slightly descending towards a new road (picnic area).
4) Cross the road and follow a driveable path that goes off diagonally. After the dam of the pond (Houillon pond), turn left. Cross the dam of a second pond in the woods and continue along the right path between two hedges. Take a wider path to the right.
5) Turn left after traveling 500m, at the junction with the marked circuit No. 21. Follow the Mollière pond (former peat bog). Possibility of an immediate return to the village via the paved road (not marked).
6) Descend to the right just after a chalet and follow the edge of a forest to then cross the Géhard stream (wooden log bridge which can be slippery or damaged by floods). Head towards the bottom of the valley and engage in a very brief steep path on the right, crossing a road. The path stays flat for a moment before plunging down towards the Géhard waterfall.
7) After visiting the waterfall, return towards the village by following the paved road for 800m then a often damp path to the left to climb the hill. Finally, a last stretch of road and the village steeple appears straight ahead.
