A pleasant walk that will take you to the heights of Fraize and lead you to the promontory of the Roche de Rovemont, with a detour to the Swiss chapel, conducive to meditation.
Departure: From the Fraize Tourist Office (altitude 507 m), take the street des Hauts Jardins, then pass behind the large white building to reach the start of the circuit. After a few hundred meters, an arrow indicates a path on the left leading to the edge of the forest, visible right from the start. By taking the right path, one reaches in a minute a monumental statue of the Virgin and Child, placed on a high pyramid of Vosges granite. A short pause allows you to admire the view of Fraize and the surrounding mountains. Following the yellow ring markings present throughout the course, one reaches in a few minutes the "shooting range". This place owes its name to the presence of an imposing building reminiscent of a fortress, used for the training of soldiers from the 158th RI, stationed in Fraize in 1914, when the Franco-German border separated annexed Alsace from the town of Fraize.
1 – Along the building on the left, one re-enters the forest via a slightly ascending path. After 600 m, it joins a wide path coming from Clefcy. Follow it to the left, steeply uphill, to reach in 15 minutes the Swiss chapel.
2 – Continuing for another 20 minutes on a slightly ascending path, one emerges onto a wider path to take straight ahead, then leave it after 200 m for another wide path leading to the Roche des Fées, formed of a mass of very large granite blocks.
3 – The final ascent of the circuit allows one to reach the Roche de Rovemont (altitude 754 m), near the television relay, offering a beautiful view of the valleys of the Petite and Haute Meurthe. It then begins a steep descent along a path that quickly opens onto a wider path. Turn right and follow it for 800 m. Then you find the forest road taken on the way out, to follow for 200 m. At the crossroads, continue right downhill. At the exit of the first tight left turn, turn right onto a winding path that crosses the forest and returns to its edge, on the path of the old railway, in the direction of the Tourist Office.
Benches provided for walkers invite reflection and daydreaming.
