Path of Excellence 6 - Circuit of the Altschlossfelsen Rock

This circuit follows an ancient Roman road to take you across the border into Germany, along the picturesque trail that runs alongside the majestic rock of Altschlossfelsen known as "the Colorado rock."

Starting from the 18th-century church of Roppeviller, with its Romanesque-style bell tower, the route joins the Helmut Kohl Avenue.

Less than a kilometer later, the rock of Altschlossfelsen, meaning "rock of the old castle," towers above. There used to be a small castle here. This rock is one of the largest in the Palatinate massif. It stretches nearly 1.5 km and reaches 20 meters high in places. The countless caves, overhangs, and other geological curiosities of Altschlossfelsen are sure to surprise you!

The rock of Diana and the three figurines sculpted into the rock represent Diana, the Goddess of the Hunt; Mars, the God of War; and Sylvanus, the God of the Forest (or Hercules).
