The Langeberg, which means "The Long Mountain," is an essential part of this hike. The walking path partly follows the Saar River below in the pleasant setting of the village of Zetting, then passes along the ridge of the Langeberg.
The ascent, although relatively short, requires a moderate effort. It is rewarded with a superb viewpoint at the edge of the forest, overlooking the surrounding countryside and the church of Zetting. The next part of the route takes a very pleasant little path lined with vegetation and marked throughout by a series of boundary stones from 1769, made of sandstone from the Vosges.
The Langeberg is particularly appreciated for the richness of its panoramas and the tranquility it provides. The charm of this hike also lies in the variety of landscapes: countryside, forest, and river.
For those wishing to continue exploring the Saar Valley, it can be complemented by the "Le Zettingerwald" loop on the other side of the river, by taking a picturesque link of 1.2 km through the village of Zetting. You will find a charming church there, St. Marcel's Church, a true historical monument known for its 11th-century tower, its nave, its gothic choir, and its stained glass windows. Whether you are in search of tranquility, this second walk in the heart of the forest offers a rewarding experience for all nature and history lovers.
The two loops partly adjoin the "Boundary Stones Circuit" (14.4 km). In the 18th century, the periphery of the commune of Zetting was marked by 81 stones marked with a large Z representing a wolf trap, the symbol of the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken. Some of these stones are still visible today, along the small paths or sheltered by a tree.
- Variant: can be complemented by the circuit: "Le Zettingerwald" (4 km).
- Link: between the two loops, a 1.2 km link passes through the village of Zetting (St. Marcel's Church with its 11th-century tower, Gothic nave and choir, Renaissance frescoes, and stained glass windows). A second link of 1.4 km leads to the "Fruit Path" circuit (4.5 km).
- Marking: blue ring
- Geographic area: The Saar Valley, pretty detours between river and forests
- Starting point: Zetting > Main Street - parking at the Socio-Cultural Hall
