The trail of the glaciers from Hohneck to Kastelberg

Relatively easy walk, without significant elevation gain. Lowest point: Kastelbergwasen (1166 m); highest point: summit of Kastelberg (1346 m). Approximate duration: 3 hours. Mountain paths are often rocky or steep: good shoes are essential. The névés are accumulations of snow that can last long after the snow has melted. They are often impressive, balanced, ready to rush down the steep slope ahead of them (be careful to stay on the path and not walk on this unstable snow!). Departure: Parking at the foot of the Hohneck, along the ridge road. Numerous inns along the route. Itinerary: From the foot of the Hohneck, take the GR 5 towards Rainkopf. Then follow the GR 531 towards the Kastelbergwasen inn. Then ascend towards the Hohneck by following the La Bresse circuit trail (route visible on Map IGN 3618 OT). For safety reasons, this route is not passable in winter. Marking: GR (red rectangle) then yellow cross.
