Hiking - the old abbeys

Access: From Remiremont, take the road to Val-d'Ajol and after 2 km, turn left towards Girmont-Val-d'Ajol. Parking: Park along the D57, at the place called "La Barre de la Vigotte" (near the holiday center Les Tronches).

Distance: 7.5 km / Duration: 2 h 30 / Elevation: 210 m / Marking: red ring.

1) Departure from La Barre de la Vigotte at the edge of the D57. Go down the little road towards the inn and chalets of Vigotte until the next crossroads. Climb to the right on the paved forest road.
2) Leave the pavement for a forest path to the left often closed to traffic by a barrier. Pass by the fountain of the Belgians (ONF chalet). Continue this path until the next crossroads.
3) Follow the path on the right along the slope.
4) Continue the ascent along this pleasant path, traced a long time ago to facilitate the monitoring of the forests. In a few minutes, a round trip via a winding path offers the possibility to access the Roche Fendue and lower still, in the moraine, to the Glacière (slippery ground and rocks, very steep slope).
5) Just after the wooden bridge over the small ditch, we cross the site of the Vieilles Abbayes (only a few stones are visible). Follow a path strewn with small white pebbles until a flat road. Take it to the left towards the inn of the Croisette d’Hérival (viewpoint over the Moselle valley, source of the Combeauté).
6) Follow the GR7 to the right. It quickly leads to the starting parking lot.
