Around the Marais Pond

With the beautiful body of water of Rémering-lès-Puttelange as its focal point, this hiking trail offers you a new opportunity to explore the sector of the aquatic Maginot Line.

The starting point is marked by an initial information panel located in the municipality of Rémering-lès-Puttelange. Two military remnants are still visible: the Redoute 117 memorial, which bears witness to the damage inflicted by the fighting in June 1940, and a dam.

The pond of Les Marais, at the heart of the route, is a must-stop. Follow the path that winds through fields to reach the dyke, which also serves as a path for those wishing to make a complete tour of the pond. A stop on the dyke offers a lovely view of the water expanse. The small fishing piers surrounding it, along with the surrounding nature, provide a great introduction to the rest of the walk. Information panels about the history of the ponds of Puttelange-aux-Lacs and their strategic role as reservoir ponds of the aquatic Maginot Line, two large wooden swings facing one of the most beautiful views of the pond, and a playground and picnic area have been developed to make the place even more attractive.

This pleasant walk between fields and forests is highly appreciated by cyclists, walkers, and horse riders who enjoy coming to take advantage of this rich natural heritage. The historical past of this place and the diversity of the fauna and flora that surround it make it a must-visit location in the Sarreguemines Confluences destination, much like the neighboring ponds. All benefit from preserved nature, ideal for those looking to recharge.

The hiking circuit will then lead you to the municipality of Hilsprich, where you will discover a second information panel marking another starting point of the route. It also opens the way to the circuit "In the Footsteps of the Marsouins."

- Variation: several loops are possible around the pond, with the shortest being 5.5 km, which completely hugs the banks of the pond Les Marais. The distance is ideal for a nice family walk. The round around the pond is suitable for strollers and people with reduced mobility.

- Connections: 2.1 km to the circuit "The Oak and the Reed" (12.2 km) around the pond of Diefenbach. Continuity with the circuit "In the Footsteps of the Marsouins" (13 km) partly around the pond of Hirbach. A second starting point for the circuit "Around the Pond of Les Marais" is located at Saint-Jean-Rohrbach with a connection of 1.3 km.
