Historic circuit of Frauenberg

Through the 23 stages of this journey, the Association for the Safeguarding of the Castle and Heritage of Frauenberg is pleased to present the rich historical past of the village.
Frauenberg is certainly the 'Frauenburg' (fortress of the ladies), a castle that has seen families related to the entire European aristocracy, including Russia. But it is also numerous places and events that have marked the history of the village.
As early as the High Middle Ages, a row of houses located along the Blies between the climb to the castle and the intersection towards Blies-Schweyen formed, with a mill on the Blies, the hamlet of Linterdingen, mentioned for the first time in 1273.
The first mention of Frauenberg dates back to 1628. At that time, it consisted only of a few houses built around the church, which was Protestant at that time (Place St Jaques).
Linterdingen and Frauenberg coexisted in these forms for half a century. Around 1680, the remains of the two villages ruined after the Thirty Years' War took the name of Frauenberg. After several centuries of existence, Linterdingen thus disappeared completely.
