By the 13th century, Marsal, named for its many salt springs, is a true fortified town that awakens many desires. Renovated by Vauban, the Porte de France now houses the Departmental Salt Museum. After crossing the salt meadows and stepping over the Seille, continue your journey to Haraucourt-sur-Seille, a typically Lorraine village with beautiful usoirs and a Mennonite cemetery (a branch of Anabaptists that originated in the 17th century as a dissident of the Protestants in Switzerland). Continue your route through the Bride woods, a centuries-old state forest managed by the ONF, populated with oaks and beeches of remarkable quality.
