On August 2, 1914, the General Mobilization was decreed by the President of the French Republic. The next day, the German Empire declared war on France, which it invaded from the north-east. On August 29th, warned of the imminent invasion of their town, several inhabitants of Noyon took refuge in Chiry, but the next day, Noyon and Chiry-Ourscamp fell into German hands. Situated in the 3rd line during the war of position, the town was separated when the Oise bridge was mined. Although Ourscamp, emptied of its inhabitants in 1915, escaped massive destruction, Chiry was systematically dynamited after the German withdrawal in 1917, then bombed during the battles of 1918.
