La fontaine Saint-Pierre

In a landscape full of tranquility and charm, you can discover this itinerary starting from the German and French necropolises of Vignemont. The circuit de la fontaine Saint-Pierre (an ancient Celtic gathering place) is a short 4.5 km walk around a sandy hill called "La Montagne".

The Vignemont national cemeteries were built in April 1918. In 1919 and 1920, graves were grouped here from 100 different locations up to 50 kilometers away.
Only a small number of the soldiers buried here were killed in August and September 1914, during the German advance, and in the "race to the sea" fighting between Roye and Noyon in mid-September. The vast majority were killed in the battles of 1918, mainly in the first battle in March, the Battle of the Matz in June, and the Allied counter-offensive in July and August.
The necropolis also contains prisoners of war who died in French military hospitals.
