"The Germans are in Noyon" were the words of Clemenceau in August 1915, concerned about the situation in the historic city of Saint- Médard and Saint-Eloi
Médard and Saint-Eloi. In fact, as early as September 1914, the town was occupied by German troops. The town hall and theater were requisitioned, and signs and plaques translated into German. Liberated in 1917, Noyon then came under heavy bombardment from both sides during the German offensive in the spring of 1918. 80% destroyed, reconstruction began in 1919 and was completed in the aftermath of the Second World War.
