At the confluence of the Aisne and Oise rivers, on the edge of the forest, Compiègne is a royal and imperial city, the scene of major events in French history. Around 1374, Charles V built a château, which is the origin of today?s Palais
rebuilt in the 17th century by Gabriel. It later became one of the favorite residences of Napoleon I and, above all, Napoleon III. At the time, a cultivated plain separated the Forest from the Palace and its Park. Napoleon I wanted to transform this area into a pleasure park, linking the Palace to the forest. The Grand Parc was born.
