Autumn, which has its source near Villers-Cotterêts, meanders through marshes, meadows and poplar groves. Romanesque and Gothic churches, chapels, abbeys, manor houses, castles and old farms evoke, along the water, the history of the villages perched on the hillsides.
Vez takes its name from Vadum, which became Vedum, a Latin word meaning "ford". Considered the primitive capital of the Valois, the village proudly displays its feudal castle built in 1214 by Raoul d'Estrées. From 1421 to 1429, the English occupied Vez and in 1430 Joan of Arc stayed in the fortress.
