Description by the author

Its 40-hectare protected area is particularly popular with film-makers. Discover all the treasures of the ancient city of the Sulbanectes, named Augustomagus by the Romans, which they protected in the 3rd century with a 4-meter-thick wall flanked by 30 towers, most of which have survived to this day. Outside the walls is a site unique in the Hauts de France region, the Gallo-Roman arena built in the 1st century.
Cross the Gallo-Roman enclosure that encloses the cobbled streets, the remains of the royal castle that was the place of election of Hugues Capet in 987, where the kings of France stayed until Henri IV. Pass by the Saint Maurice priory, built in the 13th century at the request of King Saint Louis, and admire the
notre-Dame cathedral (12th-16th centuries), marked by four centuries of evolution in Gothic art, and the Saint Frambourg chapel, built around 1170.
Under the reign of Philippe Auguste, the town was protected by a second rampart. The medieval fortifications (13th-16th c.) offer a beautiful walk around the town along the Nonette river.
Numerous religious communities settled in Senlis: the Charité, the Capucins, the Carmes, the Clarisse and the Présentation, close to the Saint-Vincent abbey, founded by French queen Anne of Kiev around 1060.
The former Saint-Pierre church (11th - 17th c.). In the 17th and 18th c., the town?s notables built remarkable townhouses with monumental gates. The Hôtel Dufresne de Saint-Leu (18th c.) housed the headquarters of Marshal Foch from 1916 to 1918, where he prepared the Armistice. As for nature, the ecological park offers a pleasant stroll around lakes, where you can appreciate the diversity of flora and fauna.
